At this point it’s worth us stopping for a moment and thinking about what lies ahead. In Part 2, we’ll further develop our initial ideas about critical thinking by looking at how you can make it the norm in your classroom. In Parts 3, 4 and 5 we’ll focus on specific teaching techniques you can use to promote and develop students’ critical thinking. First, in Part 3, we’ll look at critical thinking scaffolds. Then, in Part 4, we’ll turn our attention to the CRAVEN technique. Before, in Part 5, examining how teachers can use Socratic dialogue in the classroom. We’ll continue our practical focus in Parts 6 and 7, looking first at how teachers can use analysis-based activities to develop students’ critical thinking skills, before exploring how they can also use evaluation-based activities to achieve this. Finally, in Parts 8 and 9, we’ll explore some of the strategies teachers can use to help their learners both write and read more critically. Two essential elements of the critical thinking mindset.
