Effective feedback

At this point, it’s worth pausing and looking at what is still to come. In Part 2, we’ll explore the differences between summative and formative feedback, looking at the strengths and weaknesses of each. In Parts 3, 4 and 5 we’ll analyse written and verbal feedback, comparing the different approaches and then looking at a range of practical techniques. Working through Parts 4 and 5 will help you to develop, refine and embed your use of the techniques, as part of your own practice. Then, in Part 6, we’ll look at what you can do to ensure students use your feedback before, in Part 7, examining some of the strategies you can use to change students’ perceptions of feedback. This is particularly important if you have any learners who view feedback in a negative light. In Part 8, we’ll look at things from a different perspective by focussing on whole-class feedback techniques. Finally, in Part 9, we’ll examine pre-emptive feedback and look at what sort of impact it can have on your learners.
