Having reached the end of the first part of the course, let us stop, for a moment, so we can look ahead to what awaits us. Lesson study involves five distinct phases, and we will look at each of these in turn, through the rest of the course. In Part 2, we will examine planning the lesson, which marks the start of any lesson study project. In Part 3, we will turn our attention to the first classroom observation, where the planned lesson is taught for the first time. Part 4 sees us exploring the next phase, the post-observation discussion. Then, in Part 5, we look at the second classroom observation. This is where the lesson is taught again, after the plan has been refined during the post-observation discussion. Finally, in Part 6, we’ll conclude things by looking at the final discussion, that is, the last phase that completes the lesson study project.
