Before we conclude our opening section, let us take a quick look to see what we will cover in the rest of the course. In Parts 2 and 3 we’ll look a little deeper at what it actually means to observe learning in a lesson, and how you can do this successfully. Then, in Parts 4-6, we will turn our attention to evidence, thinking first about how we can collect evidence during observations, including from talking to students and teachers, before looking at how we can use that evidence to make accurate judgements. In Part 7 we’ll explore how you can give effective feedback, using the evidence you’ve collected. While in Part 8 we’ll turn our attention to the distinction between using observations for quality assurance and using them for teacher development. Finally, in Part 9, we’ll examine how you can standardise observations across a school.
